ModCloth: What I (Wish) I Wore

Staple of Your Style

Creating a little Christmas wishlist for myself today using some of my favorite pieces from ModCloth.  I love the polka dots on the Staple of Your Style dress, and the nerdy bunny sweater, but I must say that I am absolutely in love with the mustard yellow oxfords.  Maybe Santa will put them under the tree for me this year.

Any special ModCloth pieces on your list to Santa this year?

Shabby Apple Dress Review

Shabby Apple Dress Review

I recently had an opportunity to review this gorgeous Grand National dress from Shabby Apple.  I love Shabby Apple’s feminine vintage styles, so I paired this dress with a vintage silver choker and my favorite silver vintage clutch (passed down from my mom).  I added a lovely handmade rose quartz bracelet from Robin Chard Jewelry, and black wedge heels to complete the outfit.  A few different accessories and this dress would be perfect for this season’s holiday parties.

You can see my full review of Shabby Apple and this dress at Oh My Gosh Beck.

Do you dress up for holiday parties, or do they tend to be more casual affairs?

Happy holiday dressing and handmade accessorizing, DIY’ers!

Fall Fashion at Ross Dress for Less

I was invited by Ross Dress for Less to check out their Fall Fashion Event going on this month.  I am always excited to shop at Ross, but here is a confession:  I wasn’t really in the mood to shop for fall clothes.  I’ve been sort of in denial that cold weather is approaching, and while I am definitely a girl who loves her boots and cardi’s, I wasn’t quite ready to don them just yet.

Ross Dress for Less Ross Dress for Less Ross Dress for Less Ross Dress for Less

So I went to Ross with this funky mood of not really knowing what I wanted to buy.  New jeans?  New boots?  New jacket?  A pretty new dress to wear to the office?  They had all of those things and more.

And then something caught my eye.  A rack.  A rack of seemingly endless sweater dresses.  Warm and gorgeous and perfect for leggings and boots, glorious sweater dresses.  I grabbed a pair of black boots that was calling my name, carried eight sweater dresses into the dressing room, and I started to feel a bit giddy about dressing for fall and winter.

I ultimately selected two dresses to purchase because one just wasn’t going to be enough to get me through the winter.  (Sadly, I had to say goodbye to those gorgeous black boots, but not without a few tears.)

Ross Dress for Less

One of my purchases was a cotton blend long top/tunic style dress.  I loved the colored stripes and that the material was light enough to wear when the temps were just starting to dip but not yet cold enough for a hot sweater or coat.  At Ross I tried the dress on with skinny dark denim and loved the look, but once home I paired it with black pants and my own black boots for work.

Are you a Ross Dress for Less shopper?  Have you checked out their fall styles yet?  If not, I highly encourage you do so.  It’s a great place to shop for current trends, and the prices are incredible.  Especially worth checking out if you are currently looking for fall boots, jeans, colored tights, dresses or jackets.  I found all of these items on my recent trip!  Currently Ross is holding The Great Dress Event  in stores.  Also, be sure to check out Ross Dress for Less Facebook page.  You can keep up with their current promotions and they often post giveaways you can enter.

Happy fall shopping!

Wear It: Camo Dress

I can’t tell if I really like this dress or if I think it looks like some bad camo print.  What do you think?

What I Wore WednesdayDress, shoes, cardi:  Target; Earrings: Dillards; Necklace: Graduation gift from my mom

Anyway, it’s a been a busy week around here as I wrap up the last of my classes and prepare for graduation next month.  Today I actually stepped out of my jeans and dressed up a bit to attend an honors ceremony at the university.  My fashion stylist told me to accept my award in something floral and flirty.  Not sure if camo falls under flirty, but this is what I wore.

I have the chance to take a big giant breather for the next couple of weeks.  I can’t tell you how ecstatic that makes me.  I have some sewing projects in mind I’d like to tackle…if Netflix doesn’t suck me in first.

Have an awesome week!

Wear It: Ross Dress for Less and Giveaway

Last summer Ross Dress for Less opened up a new store here in Louisville and I was pretty stoked.  Ross carries trendy clothing at super affordable prices, and I have found many great deals there.

In March, Ross opened up a second location in Louisville so I popped into the new place during their grand opening week.  True to themselves, the new store carried trendy spring fashions and name brands at prices that won’t break the bank.  Isn’t that what every girl wants?

Check out these cute pieces I took into the dressing room:

Ross Dress for Less

You may have already seen a facebook and twitter sneak peek of one of the favorite dresses I tried on, but which dress did I ultimately select?  This one:

What I Wore Wednesday, Ross Dress for Less

With the great selection at Ross it was hard to choose, but I really loved the color of this dress and the understated high-low hem.  The flowery cutouts on the back and shoulders pretty much sold me.  This dress is great with a cardi and leggings, but I’ll get tons of wear out of it in the spring.

What I Wore Wednesday, Ross Dress for Less

What about you?  Are you ready to do some spring shopping?  Ross wants to give a $25 gift card to help make that happen for one lucky person!  In addition to women’s clothing, Ross also carries home décor, shoes, accessories, children’s clothing and more – so there’s something for everyone.   Simply enter on the Rafflecopter form below for a chance to win a $25 Ross Dress for Less gift card.

(Also, check out the Ross Facebook page for more fun opportunities to win during their Shoe Madness event.)

Good luck!

A gift card was received by me from Ross, but I was in no way obligated to blog, brag, or boast about my experience.

Wear It: eShakti

What I Wore Wednesday eShakti

Every time I wear these boots with a dress, I want to go two-stepping.

I don’t even know how to two-step.

But the denim jacket makes me look like I could rock the two-step, no?

What I Wore Wednesday eShakti

This is my new dress from eShakti.  I love it for a thousand reasons, not the least of which is because it has pockets.  Also, because clothing from eShakti can be customized to fit your exact measurements.  And you can choose dresses in your preferred length.  And sleeve style.  Seriously, with so many ways to customize their already fabulous selection, eShakti is a woman’s dream shop.

My dress fits me perfectly, the length hits me exactly where I like my dresses to hit, and the shipping was speedy quick.  Plus, I’m stepping from my comfort zone and gleefully wearing flying critters.  It’s an all around win-win.

What I Wore Wednesday eShakti

What I Wore Wednesday eShakti

I purposely selected a dress that I could transition from spring to summer, back to fall.  With the length and sleeve customizations, many of eShakti’s dresses can transition from season to season, which I love.

If you’re interested in checking out eShakti’s clothing for yourself, you can use code DYLSVLLE for 20% off until 3/20/13.

Have you ever had a dress customized for yourself?  How do you feel about wearing flying critters on your clothes?

Wear It: Handmade

What I Word Wednesday: Handmade

Don’t look too close at these pictures or you’ll see my goose bumps and extra long arm hairs standing straight up.    It was freezing, but I really wanted to show off this fabulous skeleton cameo necklace by Louisville jewelry artist Under Sixes and I thought you might be able to see it better if it wasn’t hiding beneath a parka and two infinity scarf layers.

I was inspired by Suzanne at Style Files to pull out some stripes this week after she shared them as one of her top 10 wardrobe essentials.  I’m also thinking this Marion polish from Julep should be a wardrobe essential.  What do you think?

(Are you a Julep maven?  You can sign up today and use the code FREEBOX to get your first box free. )

What I Word Wednesday: HandmadeShirt & Jeans: Target; Cardi: Banana Republic, gifted (i.e. Hand-Me-Down); Earrings: Wisconsin Gift Shop; Necklace: Under Sixes; Leather Cuff: Made by Me; Nail Polish: Julep

I put the how-to for making this leather cuff on the blog last week, but just in case you’d rather win one than make one, I’m giving one away in my awesome sponsor giveaway.  Which you should totally check out.  And enter.

So, who’s ready for spring?

Make and Wear: Je t’aime

freezer paper stencil heart Je t'aime shirt

The temps right now are somewhere between 20-degrees and freezing-to-death, so this blurry indoor shot of my shirt will have to suffice for the moment.

After making a simple freezer paper stencil heart shirt for my daughter this week, I thought I needed a more grown up version to wear myself.  I have been loving all of the large heart shirts that seem to be in fashion right now, but thought a smaller heart with a nod to my upcoming spring trip to Paris would be a better fit for me.

I made the design in Word and used freezer paper to make the stencil, but I cheated and ran this image through my Silhouette cutter instead of cutting by hand.  Dear Silhouette, Je t’aime.

Have you ever made freezer paper stencils?  You can watch my video demonstrating the method on WDRB in the Morning HERE.  Such a fun project!

Wear It: Hand-Knit Cowl

What I Wore Wednesday

This is not so much an outfit post as it is a Hey!  Look at the new hand-knit cowl I got for Christmas! post.  Purchased by my friend Kim at a local art & craft show, but there was no tag or card so I can’t give credit to the artist.  Sad.  It adds the perfect amount of warmth without too much bulk which is really nice.  Sometimes you just don’t want that suffocated feeling, you know?  I’m always jealous of those that can knit or crochet.  I’d love to have one of these bad boys in about 20 different colors.

My coat is old from Target and my earrings were also handmade, by Kiki(verde).  Love.

I hope you guys are keeping warm this week.  It’s currently spitting sleet and snow outside and my daughter is doing the Snow Day Dance as I type this.  Perhaps I should join her; I wouldn’t mind a snow day myself.

Wear It: Slouchy Shirt

What I Wore Wednesday

Anyone else hear What A Feeling playing in the background?

This was my first day of my last semester of school outfit.  Man, does it feel good to say that.  I know I keep bringing it up, but you guys, it’s a light at the end of a loooong tunnel that I sometimes seriously wondered if I’d ever see.  Going back to school as an adult is just so different.

There was no internet my first go at college (I’m ancient, don’t mention it), but there is practically nothing that can’t be accomplished online today, including renting textbooks at Campus Book Rentals.  Renting textbooks typically saves even more money than buying used, because you send them back at the end of the semester when you no longer need them.  Campus Book Rentals can save you 40-90% off bookstore prices, has free shipping both ways, and donates to Operation Smile with each textbook rented.  Awesome, right?  One of my books this semester was over $100 at the bookstore, and Campus Books Rentals has it available to rent for less than $25.  I’m talking serious cash savings.   One of my biggest hesitations for renting textbooks was that I wouldn’t be able to highlight in them for studying, but at Campus Book Rentals highlighting is allowed.  Bonus points!  I’d recommend checking out their prices before you overspend at your campus bookstore.

What I Wore Wednesday

I’m wearing a couple of my favorite handmade items today:  Necklace made by Mandy of  Love Squirrels; Wooden Ring made by Uncommon Handmade.  Love these little pops of color!

Top: Forever 21; Tank:  Target; Jeans:  J Crew, thrifted; Boots:  Polo, thrifted;   Boot Socks:  Target

Have a great week!

Wear It: On Television

What I Wore Wednesday

What I Wore Wednesday

What I Wore Wednesday

Outfit:  Target; Boots:  Thrifted; Necklace: LindsayLou Jewelry; Earrings:  Made by Me

I was shown on TV from the waist up for all of seven minutes last week, and yet I fretted over this outfit for…a longer time than I should probably admit.  I am so loving orange/pumpkin/rust right now and this wool skirt from Target might be my favorite purchase all season.  I’d wear this style of skirt every single day if I could find more that fit just like it.

The handmade portion of my outfit today comes from Louisville jewelry maker LindsayLou Jewelry.  I don’t have very many gold necklaces, so I seem to pull this one out each time I’m not wearing silver.  It’s such a sweet little piece and I love its pop of color.

I’m always looking to add more handmade accessories to my outfits.  Any suggestions for online, etsy, or Louisville jewelry makers to check out?

Wear It: Seasonal Confusion

What I Wore Wednesday

Outfit: Target; Necklace: LindsayLou Jewelry; Earrings: Made by Me

Is it winter, or fall?  I don’t know and I’m all mixed up on what to wear.  Perhaps that’s why I’m wearing Halloween colors today?  Maybe.  Actually, I asked my husband to pick a pair of tights from the pile so I could wear this dress already, and he chose these rust tights.  What do you think?  Do you like his color mixing choices?  I feel a little witchy-ish.

Wear It: Aubergine

What I Wore Wednesday

Know what’s fun?  An awesome mother-in-law that takes you shopping for early Christmas presents and lets you pick out a new scarf and a new sweater.  Know what else is fun?  Saying the word aubergine.  Know what’s not fun?  One week left of finals.  And also?  The blue bit on my scarf is the tag my husband failed to mention was sticking out.  Why do guys never notice things like that?

Aubergine sweater, scarf, booties (way old):  Kohls
Tank:  Target
Jeans:  JCrew, thrifted

I have always loved this aubergine deep purple color, so I’m glad to see it’s everywhere this season.  What color are you loving lately?

Wear It: Bloopers

I’m hunkered down and focused over here as I wrap up this semester with final exams, term papers, and class projects.  Which incidentally means not getting dressed and not getting out much.  I’ve worn yoga pants and leggings for so many days now that my daughter asked if I wanted new sweatpants for Christmas.  Pipe down kid, I’m asking Santa for something much more exciting.

Luckily, my friend Jilli of Mia Bella Photography has rescued you from seeing pictures of my lounging gear with this awesome blooper reel she put together of our photographic adventures from last month.  You can see our complete sets of outfit posts HEREHERE - HERE and HERE.Mia Bella Photography

Yes, I am a goofball.  Yes, I have E.T. fingers.  Yes, Jilli was amazingly patient trying to get me to be serious.  And yes, I plan on getting out of my yoga pants very soon.  Until then, embrace your goofy side, DIY’ers!

Wear It: Purple Pants with Mia Bella Photography

Mia Bella Photography

This is our final week with Mia Bella Photography.  It’s been so much fun having my outfits professionally photographed that I think we should all send notes of love and admiration to the very talented lady behind the camera and beg of her to continue photographing our outfits each week.  You with me?

In the past few weeks you’ve seen me play with color, get dressy, and go vintage, but for my final outfit I chose to dress down in a casual every day look.  I love to pull on a fun, flirty dress or skirt, but the truth is that 80% of the time I’m donning a pair of comfortable jeans.  Usually they’re of the blue variety, but like everyone else, I am digging colored jeans lately.  For me, I’m particularly digging these purple jeans.

What do you think?  Are you a colored jean fan?

Wear It: No nonsense

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of No nonsense. All opinions are 100% mine. No nonsense tights and leggings can be found at food and drug stores as well as mass retail stores.

Julee and I were lucky enough to be asked to try out No nonsense tights and leggings.   I received the cotton leggings in Espresso, and Julee received the Rose Floral Openwork Tights.

I was super happy to see the leggings show up in brown since I have been looking for a pair to wear with my brown boots.  I ordered the XL and am normally a size 16.  They are super comfy and have a great weight and stretch to them.  My only suggestion is to maybe order down a size if you are on the smaller end of the size scale.  These were a tiny bit big on me.   I love leggings in the fall/winter since they keep me so much warmer than tights and since I work in a preschool they help keep me decent too.

what we wore no nonsense leggings

Julee paired her pink lacy tights with a chambray sheath dress and black booties.  Lace tights add such an element of fun to your outfits.  You can wear them to make a bold fashion statement, or you can pair them with a more classic skirt or dress for an unexpected hint of sassiness.

You can find No nonsense on Facebook or Twitter, and their affordable tights and leggings can be purchased at many food, drug, and retail stores.

We were sponsored by No nonsense for this opportunity.  All opinions are our own.

What are your favorite leggings and tights trends this fall?  Do you opt for warm and cozy leggings, or are you more of lace tights kind of gal?
