Louisville Mini Maker Faire

Louisville Mini Maker Faire

The first ever Louisville Mini Maker Faire is happening on September 28, 2013!

Not sure what a Maker Faire is?  Well, it’s a family friendly faire that celebrates and epitomizes the do-it-yourself spirit, and encourages participants to join in the fun of creativity.  Makers are thinkers, innovators, doers.  Think ingenuity at its fullest.  Dale Doughtery, Founder of Make magazine, describes the Maker Movement as, “Fostering a participatory culture that invites and inspires creative communities of makers to come together and share what they make and do.”  Pretty awesome stuff, right?

The Maker Movement is generally heavy on technology and engineering, but when I heard Dale Doughtery speak earlier this year, he also emphasized that each of us are makers.  Those of us who make anything, are makers.  Cooks, homesteaders, knitters, painters, artisans, crafters – all makers.

Indeed, D.I.Y. Louisville is itself a crafty makers group.

D.I.Y. Louisville will have a booth set up at the Louisville Mini Makers Faire presenting six various art and craft demonstrations throughout the day.  Many of our group members including Craft E Magee, Miss Happy Pink, Em Dash Designs, and artisan Robin Chard will join me as we share the talents that make up our group.

For more information on the Louisville Mini Maker Faire, the maker movement, and maker faires in general,  check out the LMMF website makerfairelou.org.  You can also keep up with announcements and events on their Facebook and twitter feeds:  facebook.com/MakerFaireLou and @makerfairelou

I hope to see many of you at Louisville’s first Maker Faire!
